In response to the Sudanese Professionals Association's call, hundreds of thousands marched to the armed forces' headquarters in Khartoum. Divisions arose among the security forces, but the military supported the demonstrators.

As the protest continued, social media was blocked, and power was cut. A sustained sit-in at the military headquarters began, with these photos serving as a humble attempt to capture the soul of the sit-in.

However, the scenes of hope and determination came to an abrupt end on June 3 when soldiers raided the protest camp at dawn. Soldiers, outnumbering the crowds, opened fire on protesters who, as they tried to flee, screamed and stumbled on makeshift barricades they had set up to guard against such an attack. This tragic turn marked a harrowing chapter in Sudan's journey for change.
